Airborne Wandeltocht

Saturday 3rd September was a great day to walk 10km. It was the 70th Airborne Wandeltocht in Oosterbeek, in memory of Operation Market Garden in WWII. I have done it 3 times before, but this was the first time that we did it as a family. Read: I spent 10km pushing a buggy over roads and through sands whilst H repeatedly took Bubble in and out of the rucksack so he could ‘join in’, otherwise known as walk, pick up a stick, walk, complain about being tired, get back into rucksack. Luckily, it wIMG_3139asn’t a race. A fact reinforced when Squeak had a brief stretch of the legs and collected 15 pinecones within 2 metres, insisting on walking the wrong way, back along the path we had already trodden thus adding to our distance and thinning our patience. Kids hey 😉 That said though, we are super proud of how well they coped and they were buzzing about if for days after…or at least about the trains and busses we had taken to and from the walk anyway. Its such a lovely event and I really hope that it becomes a firm fixture for us over the years. I just love listening to all the bands marching alongside a huge international mixture of people from families to cadets to those that make it an annual pilgrimage. And everything in between. For the record, there are further distances to choose from (up to 40km), but for now, I’m sticking with the enjoyable, yet still lengthy with small legs, 10km.
