About My Blog

My blog posts will be sorted roughly into categories. From my first posts the categories are introduced below :

Living in NL

After growing up in the rural English hills, I now live in the below-sea-level Netherlands aka. the land of cheese and tulips. This experience has brought me many cherished moments of joy and some deep moments of despair. Yet I’m still here with my lovely family and a work-in-progress house project.

Favourite Quotes and Jokes

Despite blogging, I am a big fan of the old-school communication ways, i.e. Sending something via the post. There is something so heart warmingly special about receiving a letter or postcard that someone has taken the time to choose and write. I am often guilty of using quotes to embellish my scribbles, as there is no point reinventing the wheel if it has already been written so beautifully. Some quotes I reuse, others I enjoy finding and storing for the right occasion.

As for jokes, that is a fondness that I have inherited from my father. They are often terrible jokes that only incur a sympathetic ‘haha’, but occasionally there are some real corkers that are a treat to hear and that send me into a giggling fit before I get to sharing the punch line with the listener.

What’s next for me?

A stay-at-home mum who is starting to look for work with a regular pay-cheque attached

I have enjoyed the years as a mum to my 4 year old Bubble and 2 year old Squeak*. But there are only so many train tracks I can build and or slides I can get stuck on before I lose all touch with my previous working capabilities and brain capacity. The time has come to look at what want to, and can do beyond mummy-ing has come.

*Bubble and Squeak are aliases, although they do say ‘you are what you eat’.

The ‘Funny’ Friend

You know those people who always forget the swimming nappies for the kids with borderline diarrhea at the pool? That’s me. I’m the one that organised my whole wedding making sure everyone else was ready but forgot to take my wedding dress with me to the hotel the night before. I’m the friend in a group that people are pleased to know, because I will always f**k up something worse then they do, but laugh it of and put it down to experience. Again. Just because it goes wrong, doesn’t mean I won’t try. Life is too damn short to be embarrassed about failures. It is what it is. You may as well laugh about it and look forward. It’s certainly more fun than crying

2 Boys or 2 Monkeys?

I’m a full-time mum to a 2 and 4 year old who are bright, happy, cheeky, loud, monster like terrors. They both love climbing, even if they are cursed with their mother’s short legs. And they love singing, dancing and the demo button on the keyboard. But their favourite thing to do is to eat. It doesn’t matter what it is – they are just as happy with a bowl of strawberries as with a month old cardboard-like rice cracker.

Trips and Tips to Explore

Getting to grip with what there is to do, see and experience nearby our home in Velp, Arnhem and the majestic Veluwezoon National Park.

Health Hurdles

Lucky me. I have Type 1 diabetes and Relapsing Remitting MS. Yeah! But I do also have 2 hands, 2 feet, 2 eyes and a solid sense of humour. Whilst I try to limit the number of people in my life who look at me as if I was sick (I don’t consider myself to be), I am also happy to share experiences and have somewhere to vent the odd frustrations.

Ramblings

A space for my random thoughts, reflections, ambitions, and lists. It’s always about the lists.
